Employee Spotlight Duane Hummel
We are continuing our Spotlight Interview Series where we ask our employees about their role at MCDC, what makes them want to come to work each day, and how they spend their free time.
This month we are introducing Underwriter Duane Hummel who has been with MCDC since January 2018. Duane is a key part of the underwriting team who are the first ones our Loan Officers talk to before
submitting a deal.
Duane's job is to first review the project for eligibility, then conduct a thorough analysis of the financial condition and other due diligence to ensure the loan is a sound investment of tax payer funds.
What do you like most about MCDC?
I like being part of a team who play an integral role in delivering a very important economic development program to small businesses throughout the State of Michigan. The partnerships that we have with lenders and others who work with small business owners to make a project successful is very gratifying.
What is on my bucket list?
I have a few, but high on the list is to attend a Michigan football game in every Big Ten stadium with my sons.
What is the last book I read?
Flyboys, by James Bradley. The book tells the true story of nine American airmen shot down in the Pacific during WWII. One of those happened to be George H.W. Bush who was rescued. The tragic fate of the others was a closely guarded secret for over 60 years, until it was revealed in the book. The book reminds us of man's inhumanity to man, the sacrifices that were made, and the power of the human spirit.
