The SBA 504 Loan Program provides healthy small and medium-sized businesses with long-term fixed rate financing for the acquisition or construction of fixed assets. Projects are financed through a unique public/private partnership that involves private lenders financing 50% of project costs, MCDC covering up to 40% of project costs, and small businesses investing at least 10% of project costs. By taking a secondary collateral position on project assets, SBA provides a “collateral cushion” for the primary lender and reduces the amount of equity normally required of the borrower.
American Gymnastics Institute, Inc. (AGI) began in 2002 by husband and wife team Lawrence and Linda Miller. AGI provides gymnastics training for recreational and competitive athletes with a focus on new skills, safety and having fun. All of the coaches are safety trained and certified through USA Gymnastics.
This project involves the purchase and addition of an existing building in Chesterfield Township. AGI had been leasing their building since inception, and was able to purchase it with the help of Michigan Schools & Government Credit Union and the MCDC SBA 504 Loan Program. After the addition, there will be rooms for dancing, hosting birthday parties and other events. By taking advantage of the SBA 504 Loan Program, Lawrence and Linda obtained low rate financing with only 10% down.

Low rate financing and a fixed rate loan are benefits that Larry received from partnering with the MCDC.
American Waste with headquarters in Kalkaska, began as Northern A-1 Sanitation Services, a family owned business over 30 years ago. American Waste provides refuse removal and solid waste services across Northern Michigan from residential to commercial to industry disposal services in Grand Traverse, Emmet, Charlevoix, Antrim, Otsego, Kalkaska, Crawford, Wexford, Benzie, Leelanau, and Manistee counties. The opportunity to purchase a 211,000 square foot building on 15 acres in Traverse City, as well as an adjoining building for their maintenance function, allowed for the consolidation of its three existing Traverse City facilities. The new facility includes a receiving area for all incoming materials, a material handling, sorting, recycling and storage area. The recycling operation, made possible by purchase of the new facility will reduce the amount of trash taken to the landfill by at least 50%. Definitely a substantial effect on our environment. The low fixed rate and the twenty year term allows American Waste to concentrate on making our world a little greener.
