The Wooden Spoon Café and Artisan Market is an upscale eatery and specialty market striving to provide creatively prepared food daily using locally sourced fresh ingredients for both dine-in and take-out customers.  The partners saw a need to provide artisan style menu options for the busy residents of the Brighton community whose schedules were not conducive to dining out in a traditional restaurant setting where freshly prepared menu items would require a visit of at least an hour.  The menu is limited and changes daily.  For lunch, a combination of fast, hot or cold sandwiches on Zingerman's breads, tossed to order salads, homemade soups and savory entrees are available.   The menu changes for dinner with a limited menu easy to re-heat gourmet takeout dinner options. The specialty store offers artisan-type food as well as cookbooks and unique kitchen utensils.  During the summer months local fresh produce is available for sale as is year-round off premises catering.  Not only have the partners managed to provide a new, convenient but high quality food option to community, they were also able to locate the restaurant in a vacant building on a busy thoroughfare adding new life to a tired eyesore.  The loan proceeds were used to acquire and renovate the restaurant property.  By utilizing the SBA 504 Loan Program a hard to finance start up business was born creating jobs and improving the neighborhood.  The restaurant is managed by Steve Pilon who is a professional chef of local renown having been the executive chef at the Oak Pointe Country Club in Brighton and winner of local Iron Chef cooking competitions over the past several years.  The restaurant currently has 10 full-time employees and 13 part-time and it is estimated that the restaurant will employ 15 full time in two years.
